Red-legged partridge

Few breeds as the partridge allow the hunter to enjoy, together with his trained dog, taking long walks around the mountains and living friendly and exciting meetings. The region of Castilla-La Mancha offers the ideal characteristics for the abundance of partridges and quails, in part due to its numerous wetlands. What is more, our homeland is renowned for its traditional driven partridge shoots.

The Red-legged Partridge (Alectoris rufa) prefers areas of vineyards and cereal, which are very present in our community’s vast areas of land and crops. They are medium-sized ground-nesting birds that feed on seeds. Some species are known by their meat because of their great culinary value.

According to the Greek legend, the first partridge appeared when Daedalus threw his nephew Perdix over a mountain in a fit of rage.
